A knackered computer, somewhere in Kent....

I've just been watching University Challenge where one of the questions was a picture of the Rebel Alliance logo from Star Wars, and the teams had to identify which sci- fi film it came from. The guy that answered looked very sheepish at having to admit he recognised it and then the team proceeded to cringe their way through three further sci- fi logos. Why are people so embarrased by sci- fi? How did it come by this reputation where it is something to be looked down on? It's not all bad. True- for every 'Empire Strikes Back' there is a 'Phantom Menace' but you could say that about any genre.
The same group of students later went on to answer a question about the game invented by AA Milne and were clearly far prouder of the fact that they knew the answer to this than they were about being exposed as freakish sci- fi geeks.
I live in a world where it is more acceptable to shout 'Poohsticks' on national television than it is to enjoy a particular type of genre.
Bloody students.

*cough*

probably for the same reason some people are embarrased to admit they like 80s rock. REALLY like 80s rock.

N - ...are twats.

A - I think the 80's rock thing is less about the music itself than the surrounding culture. The hair, man, the hair! There's your ozone hole right there!

Aliemalie- Ah, yes that Mr K does love his 80's rock almost as much as he loves his badgers.
Strangely enough he also loves his hair which could confirm Xulub's thoughts...
: D

Xulub- I suppose we were students once too, remember. Although I'm not sure if that is a plus or a minus for the student argument.

We were exceptional. Don't stress it.

80's rock and mullet metal are superb, sci fi is awesome and geeks are in this season. As long as Heroes is popular and David T is Dr Who it's ok to talk in public about sci fi. This year folks, WE are the cool kids. ;)

But I have no tv and no flesh-and-blood friends, gorammit! Fortunately, I have Wikipedia and y'all. Which is a life-saving substitute (though harder on the eyes and easier on the liver).

xulub - lost in wiki

Xulub- That would explain it.

Hageltoast- Let's face it, we were always the cool kids. It just took the others a while to catch up.

Xulub- Now I feel bad I haven't posted much recently.
